IDEAN‘s open culture is built upon a system of shared values. The conglomerated activities and outcomes resulting from the application of IDEAN‘s ideals generate a distinct character. This open ethos embraces (and reinforces) the 33 principles discussed here, most notably those related to tolerance, human rights, and environmental and social justice. However, even this value system is non-static. It is subject to change and to periodic affirmation and adjustment. This is facilitated through a life-long collaborative learning process and by enabling institutions to partner with all sectors of urban life (public, private, civic). These collective but open ethics are a distinctive feature of IDEAN‘s culture.
