Traditional urbanisation has tended to regard nature as an endless, blank canvass with unlimited space and resources; an idea that was characterised by linear resource flows. Instead, Ideal Sectors operate with the delimited human and natural ecologies. Accordingly, urban units at various levels are envisioned as autonomous systems that are mutually integrated and resource flows are conceived in terms of loops (from garbage flows to energy and water cycles).
