In contrast to homogeneous villas or integrated township schemes, Urban Wedgeaims to present a fully-fledged city. The new sector stretches between two regional transport axes and it is structured by a rectangular grid. At the transit roads, industries form the edge of the sector. As a rule all major streets are main streets, featuring commercial uses at ground level. On the block level various actors and social groups can interact. Private spaces can be created in the courtyards. A closely-knit pedestrian network promotes a human scale and ‚walkability‘. Public services are decentralised and offered in a package with neighbourhood squares. The central green area is combined with an existing watercourse and is transformed into a park.
